The Gen 2 router is a more powerful CPU that can handle multiple internet sources very well. If you are planning on running multiple internet sources, then Yes, you should consider upgrading to the Gen 2.

If you using the Insty Cellular Antenna only, the Gen 1 router will continue to work well for you.

The Gen 2 router will NOT get you faster overall speeds for internet from the Gen 1.  Wifi 6 does have faster overall speeds within the wifi network, but not from the Internet to your device.

As mentioned in the video above, the Gen 2 router can ONLY work with the Insty POE "Squared" antenna & modem.  

The purchase link for upgrading the router is in our new billing system.  If you have purchased the POE & Squared, you should be in the new billing system and will be able to see the purchase link.

If you are not in the new billing system, you most likely have the USB modem and will not be able to upgrade the router directly.  Please reach out to us if you have any question on if you have the POE or the USB.

The new Gen 2 router has a faster CPU to handle multiple internet connections more seamlessly.  The Gen 1 router CAN failover, but we recommend upgrading to the Gen 2 router if you want to use multiple internet connections.

Unfortunately, No.  The Gen 1 router was the "brains" for the USB modem.  When we transitioned to the POE modem, we were able to program our unique band locking Insty software direct on the chip, giving us the ability to use a different router. (the original gen 1 router had a powerful USB system, allowing us to utilize long USB cable runs).

To update your system, you would have to purchase both the POE Modem and the new Gen 2 router, which would essentially be the whole system. 

We do however have a discount in place for any customer that is in our Insty Connect Care program.  If you are an ICC member, please reach out to us for the discount code to use in the order form for an upgrade discount.

The Squared antenna is compatible with the X62 modem only.  The X62 was available in USB and POE, so if you have the X62 modem in either the USB or the POE, you would be able to use the Squared enclosure. 

(I know this can be confusing :)  Sorry about that!

InstyVPN is included as part of our Insty Connect Care program, which is $79 per year.

The Insty Connect Care is our advanced support system that allows us to give you an extra level of support for your Insty Connect system.

It was created as a way for you to also buy into the Insty Connect project, giving us the ability to continue to innovate as new technologies emerge.

It also includes perks such as:

• Discounts on system upgrades.
• InstyVPN stateful, secure private VPN

Insty Connect Care is available for $79 per year.

If you are a new customer, the Insty Connect Care program is an option listed on the main order page.  Make sure it's selected and added to the order.

If you are a current customer, you can log into your Insty Client area, click on Services -> Insty Connect Accessories and Insty Connect Care will be a product listed.  Just add to cart and you should be good to go.  You may have to contact Support to enable InstyVPN if it doesn't add it automatically to your Insty Quick Dashboard.

Speedify is a third-party bonding VPN service that can bond up to 3 WAN sources from the Insty Gen 2 router.  Currently, you need to purchase a license with Speedify and log in with your license from the router.  At the moment, they are running a 70% off special with prices as little as $4.99 per month.  Please see their website for more information as prices may change.
