Connect a computer by Ethernet

Prefer a wired connection? Plug a standard Ethernet cable into any LAN port on the router and your computer gets online automatically โ€” no setup.

The short answer

Wired is easy: run a standard Ethernet cable from your computer to a LAN port on the router (LAN1, LAN2, or LAN3) and you're online. It's plug-and-play โ€” no settings to change.

Steps

  1. Make sure your computer has an RJ45 Ethernet port (the square network jack). If it doesn't, you'll need a USB-to-Ethernet adapter.
  2. Plug a Cat5 (or better) Ethernet cable into your computer's Ethernet port.
  3. Plug the other end into LAN1, LAN2, or LAN3 on the router.

That's it โ€” your computer picks up an address automatically (DHCP is on by default) and connects.

Leave LAN4 for StarlinkIf you're also running a Starlink, keep LAN4 free for it โ€” that's the port the router watches for a Starlink connection. See Add a Starlink.
Not connecting?Nine times out of ten it's plug-and-play. If your computer won't get online, check that its network settings are set to obtain an IP automatically (DHCP), and try a different cable or LAN port โ€” a bad cable is a common culprit.
