The short answer
Most people never need this. But when you're parked somewhere marginal, the Band Wizard lets you lock the modem to specific cellular bands (or to 4G- or 5G-only) so it holds onto a better tower instead of hopping to a weaker one. It lives in the modem dashboard.
Try the simple stuff firstBefore locking bands, make sure your antenna is up and outside and try the speed checklist โ and on Multi-Network, switch carriers. Band locking is a fine-tuning tool for after those, not a first move.
Open the Band Wizard
- Open the modem/antenna dashboard at http://192.168.225.1 โ or tap Modem/Antenna Dashboard from your router dashboard.
- In the Tools row, open Band Wizard.
How to use it
- Lock to 4G-only or 5G-only. Sometimes a solid 4G signal beats a flaky 5G one (or vice-versa). Forcing one can steady the connection where the modem was bouncing between them.
- Lock to specific bands. If you know (or discover by testing) that a particular band reaches your spot better, lock to it so the modem stops wandering to a weaker band.
- Test as you go. After a change, give it a minute and run a Speed test from your dashboard. Keep what helps; undo what doesn't.
Set it back to automatic when you moveA band lock is tied to *where you are now*. What works at one campsite can hurt at the next. When you travel on, return the Band Wizard to automatic so the modem is free to pick the best band again. If your signal ever gets worse after locking, switching back to auto is the first thing to try.
Still stuck?
Band locking is genuinely advanced โ if you're not sure what to pick, don't guess. Send us your location and what you're seeing and we'll suggest bands to try.
